What do I need?
I live in an individual home, what do I need?
To receive DTH services in an individual house or dwelling, you will need:
- a small satellite dish with universal LNB
- a satellite receiver
- a TV set
I live in an apartment in a block of flats, what do I need?
The equipment needed for a collective installation is more complex than for an individual installation and depends on the type of installation you need. Please contact a professional.
Dish and LNB
Only one kind of dish is needed to receive both analogue and digital signals, but remember that the closer you are to the edge of the ASTRA satellite footprint, the larger the dish size you need.
Different colour and even transparent dishes are available to render the dish less obtrusive. Professional retailers can advise you precisely.
The signals from the satellite bounce off the dish and are focused onto the LNB, which is located at the end of an arm in front of the dish. The signals are then transferred from the LNB to the receiver.
There are different types of LNBs. To receive all the services via ASTRA you will need a dish fitted with a single LNB; however, if you have a satellite receiver with two tuners or want to receive DTH services on two different TV sets, you will need two receivers and a twin LNB.
Satellite receiver
Which receiver you opt for is determined by the types of broadcast you wish to watch: digital TV and radio; analogue TV and radio; or HDTV.
Digital TV and radio
- free-to-air receivers (set-top boxes): the most simple and low cost option, which allows you to receive more than 400 free TV and radio stations.
- Pay TV receiver: enables you to watch both free and pay broadcasts. You can rent the receiver from your bouquet operator. A smartcard is required to view the pay broadcasts.
- Analogue TV and radio – you need an analogue satellite receiver. Contact a professional retailer to find out what equipment is available.
- HDTV – you need specific receivers to receive high definition broadcasts.
A TV set
The satellite receiver connected to a TV set enables the programmes to be viewed. Bear in mind that HDTV signals can only be viewed on HD compatible screens.
