ONYX TV ON ASTRA IN ANALOGUE FREE-TO-AIR STARTING OCTOBER 1st, 2000
After MTV, VIVA and VIVA ZWEI, now ONYX TV:
The music plays around the clock on four channels on ASTRA 19.2° East
The music and entertainment channel ONYX TV, based in Cologne, Germany, will launch on October 1st, 2000 in analogue free-to-air on ASTRA transponder No. 54 (10.78800 GHz; V- polarisation).
The launch of ONYX TV marks a further extension of the ASTRA line-up of music TV channels. Along with MTV, VIVA (also starting October 1st, 2000) and VIVA ZWEI (as of February 1st, 2001), ONYX TV is the fourth German language music TV channel receivable free-to-air throughout Europe via the ASTRA satellite system at 19.2° East. ASTRA will then offer a total of 45 unencrypted analogue television channels, 37 of them in German language.
ONYX caters exclusively for fans of pop, rock, popular hits, jazz and country music. 24 hours a day, ONYX broadcasts music videos, interviews and specials with the stars and starlets of these musical styles, and thus specifically appeals to the 25 to 55 age group in the target markets of Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
ONYX TV has been on air since January 1996 and is owned by the London-based Capital Media Group Ltd., Groupe AB S.A. of France and Superstar Ventures Ltd., Hong Kong. Distributed free-to-air in analogue via ASTRA, ONYX TV can be received in more than 28 million ASTRA direct-to-home households throughout Europe.
"The maximisation of our analogue satellite distribution via ASTRA 19.2° East is an important step for ONYX TV", states Michel Assouline, CEO of ONYX Television GmbH, "Having ensured optimal technical reach, we can now focus on building our market position as an innovative entertainment channel."
Yves Elsen, Commercial and Marketing Director of SES, welcomes ONYX TV: "ASTRA 19.2° East is where the music is, specifically for the German language market. With four 24-hour music channels, ASTRA offers music lovers an attractive complement to the wide range of public and private broadcasting channels which can be received free-to-air via Europe's most popular satellite system."
