RADIO ZET VIA ASTRA ON WIZJA TV

Radio Zet, broadcast via the ASTRA Satellite System in digital, arrives on the Wizja TV digital platform.

On Thursday 28th of October 1999, Wizja TV signed an agreement with Radio Zet to broadcast this radio programme exclusively on the Wizja TV platform. Radio Zet will be the first Polish radio programme broadcast via ASTRA to be available in digital in Poland and via satellite throughout Europe.

Transmission of the Radio Zet satellite signal was launched 'live" on 29th of October, at 7:00 p.m. during an official celebration of the first anniversary of ASTRA Marketing Polska.

"Currently we deliver 215 digital radio services to European audiences. We are very pleased that such an important radio station as Radio Zet has initiated the building of a satellite radio bouquet available to Polish viewers via ASTRA satellites" - said Krzysztof Surgowt, President of ASTRA Marketing Polska.

At present the satellite Radio Zet will be available in Poland mainly to subscribers of digital Wizja TV. Introducing, for the first time in Poland, a digital radio programme, Wizja TV as the first digital platform officially launched in the country, marks a big step towards development of the great potential offered by satellite digital transmission. Radio Zet is the first Polish radio station to enhance the existing bouquet of almost fifty international radio services offered to Wizja TV viewers.

Radio Zet, which we value for its news service, is the first Polish radio station available in digital on Wizja TV, but we are sure it's not going to be the last" - said Martin Goswami, Programming Director of Wizja TV. - „We wish to enrich our TV offer with the best radio programmes and still we are open to welcome more proposals like this."

Being the first private radio station in Warsaw, Radio Zet began broadcasting on September 28th, 1990. Since March 1994 it has been available across the whole of Poland. The main initiator of setting up an independent radio station was Andrzej Woyciechowski - a distinguished Polish journalist and a correspondent of Liberation, Le Monde and AFP. Radio Zet is one of the most popular radio stations in Poland.

"We are convinced that by transmitting from ASTRA we will substantially increase our coverage in Europe by offering our service also to those Poles who live abroad. Radio Zet will be broadcast via satellite in the most modern digital technology which will ensure sound quality comparable to a CD" - commented Slawomir Suss, Chairman of Board of Directors at EuroZet.

It is very probable that by the end of 1999 the number of Polish radio stations transmitted from ASTRA will increase. About twenty Polish radio stations have expressed their interest in our satellite system. There is no doubt that this interest results not only from the quality of services offered by Société Européenne des Satellites (SES), which is the operator of the ASTRA Satellite System, but also from ASTRA having the largest geographical coverage in Poland and Europe. A steadily and rapidly growing number of Wizja TV subscribers which extends the Polish digital market has an enormous importance, too, said Krzysztof Surgowt, talking about possibilities of development of the digital Polish radio package.

More than 600 TV and radio services, analogue and digital, are provided by ASTRA via its fleet of eight satellites located at 19.2° East. ASTRA is a leading European satellite operator for the DTH market reaching almost 28 million European households and 1.63 million in Poland, respectively. Today broadcasters using services offered by SES can reach three-quarters of the world population by benefiting from the European ASTRA satellites and the Asian satellites of AsiaSat in which SES holds a strategic stake.

Wizja TV is the first Polish satellite digital television, launched 18th of September, 1998 and currently offering 25 thematic channels. Individual subscribers also have access to over 90 non encrypted TV and radio programmes delivered via ASTRA satellites. Today Wizja TV is available to some 200 000 individual subscribers and over 705 000 subscribers of PTK.

Since the 2nd of June 1999 Wizja TV has been in the ownership of United Pan-Europe Communication (UPC) headquartered in Amsterdam. UPC is the most innovative broadband communications company in Europe and owns and operates one of the largest pan-European groups of broadband communication networks. UPC provides cable television, telephony, high speed Internet access and programming services in twelve countries across Europe and Israel. As of August 31st 1999, UPC's systems passed approximately 9.1 million homes with 5.9 million basic cable subscribers. In addition, UPC had 155,000 residential telephony lines and 67,000 Internet subscribers. UPC completed an IPO in February 1999 and its shares are listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange ("UPC") and NASDAQ ("UPCOY"). UPC is a consolidated subsidiary of Denver based UnitedGlobalCom Inc. ("United"), (NASDAQ: "UCOMA"). Microsoft has an interest of approximately 7.8% in UPC.
