Alliance Ground Surveillance

ASTRA is the Luxembourg focalpoint company and a key subcontractor to the transatlantic industrial proposed solution (TIPS). The purpose of TIPS is to provide NATO with an airborne ground surveillance system, which should be fully operational by 2010.

The solution proposed to match NATOs requirements offers a mixed fleet of Airbus 321 manned aircraft and NATO Global Hawk HALE UAV aircraft. The solution provides critical capabilities for the NATO response force (NRF) and is key to NATO network enabled capability (NNEC). Satellite infrastructure will be a cornerstone for the operation of the system.

ASTRA is the only satellite operator in the TIPS consortium.
