The widespread rollout of the ASTRA Duo LNB, combined with the development of 23.5° East into a DTH hotspot, represents a major step in ASTRA’s efforts to make satellite the digital infrastructure of choice in Europe.
With the ASTRA Duo LNB, consumers no longer have to worry about where to point their dishes. Now, they can truly have it all.
ASTRA at 19.2° East is well known all over Europe for its extensive choice of TV and radio content, including more than 250 Free-to-Air and 10 high-definition TV channels. In total, 38.4 million satellite homes in 35 countries receive programming directly from 19.2° East.
ASTRA’s new DTH position at 23.5° East is an emerging prime orbital slot that already features compelling and varied content, particularly for the Dutch, Czech and Slovak markets. The vast majority of Dutch regional TV and radio channels currently broadcast from 23.5° East. In the Czech Republic, satellite package CS Link offers 25 TV and radio channels. Slovakia is served by bouquet operator Skylink with a further 20 TV channels.
ASTRA has initiated development of the ASTRA Duo LNB to provide simultaneous access to ASTRA satellites located at 19.2° and 23.5° East, using a single 60-cm dish.
By enabling the ever-growing 23.5° East menu of content to be bundled with the huge, blue-chip 19.2° East neighbourhood, the ASTRA Duo LNB advances ASTRA’s goal of continuously increasing the choice, quality and value available to European satellite users.
ASTRA has invested significant resources toward ensuring both high awareness and rapid take-up of the Duo LNB. The ASTRA Duo LNB is already available in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic, accompanied by extensive consumer and trade marketing campaigns by ASTRA and its customers.
Industry forecasts predict more than 500,000 dual LNB homes in Benelux and in Central Eastern Europe by 2010. The ASTRA Duo LNB will be the natural choice for consumers in these markets and ASTRA is seeking active partnerships with manufacturers and trade partners to further drive its development and demand.
The recently ordered ASTRA 3B satellite, which will launch in 2009 to 23.5° East, is designed to further extend the addressable market for the ASTRA Duo LNB, through an expanded footprint and by providing additional capacity and flexibility for DTH and DTC services across Europe.
The ASTRA Duo LNB has been designed in a monoblock configuration to enhance its visual appeal and ease-of-use, as well as to reduce cost. Housing two LNBs in a single unit also makes installation quick and easy compared to other multi-LNB or multi-antenna solutions.
The ASTRA Duo LNB is available in two versions: Twin, which gives up to two receivers full access to signals from both orbital positions, and Quad, which is similarly able to feed up to four independent set-top-boxes. Users can use separate connections to simultaneously watch and record programmes on different channels, using set-top-boxes with video recording capabilities.
